Keyword Taxonomy Development
December 2020 - June 2021
Epic Games needed a keyword taxonomy that technical writers could use to tag and organize complex, public-facing documentation. These keywords had to be accessible to diverse user base. Development had to consider variance in expertise as well as the differences across disciplines.
My team and I examined an existing flat taxonomy and developed a preliminary hierarchy in MURAL based on existing folksonomy tags, the documentation's preexisting structure, and the Unreal Engine's source code. We refined our work by collecting feedback from company representatives and developing user testing procedures.
Ultimately, we produced a "beautiful corner" that would serve as an example Epic can use to fully develop their keyword taxonomy. Our final report provides guidance on our development process and recommendations on how Epic can continue to expand on this work in the future.
Wiki Refinement and New Taxonomy Development
Summer 2020
New Impact is a nonprofit organization that can help private, public, and nonprofit organizations develop networks to better solve society's wicked problems, such as poverty, racial inequities, and environmental justice.

I worked directly with the Senior Product Manager to test and refine a Wiki tool that cataloged a wide variety of assets. Based on this work, I developed an initial taxonomy and corresponding ontology to better categorize different types of assets. This taxonomy more effectively communicated meaningful contributions to the Wiki's users. User testing procedures were developed and implemented.
